data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In order to move towards the decision of which technology to use and which to discard, it was essential to advance studies that require greater specificity in the analysis. The first studies to obtain data regarding the effectiveness of the bioremediation alternative for Las Salinas soils began to be obtained in late 2015 and early 2016. The Universidad T\u00e9cnica Federico Santa Mar\u00eda was the expert organization in charge of the evaluation of the strategy through two experimental studies developed at the university premises: microcosm study and the analysis of aerobic pilots (bioaugmentation, biostimulation and enhanced bioremediation) and anaerobic pilots (bioaugmentation).  <\/p><p>Subsequently, pilot studies were carried out on a semi-industrial scale, with research groups from the partner universities, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usm.cl\">Universidad T\u00e9cnica Federico Santa Mar\u00eda<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pucv.cl\">Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Valpara\u00edso<\/a>, in a gradual approach towards the real scale of the project.  <\/p><p>Thus, the extraordinary technical support required to develop a project that integrates the scientific with the territorial and social, beyond the requirements of environmental institutions, was formed. from the Universidad de Chile and Bachelor&#8217;s degree in History from the Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Valpara\u00edso (PUCV).<\/li><\/ul><p>All the work carried out by the CES, in conjunction with national and international professional experts and the company, was consolidated in December 2018 with the entry into the <a href=\"https:\/\/seia.sea.gob.cl\/expediente\/ficha\/fichaPrincipal.php?modo=normal&amp;id_expediente=2141894991\">Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA) of the EIA of the &#8220;Sanitation for the Las Salinas Land&#8221; Project<\/a> for its evaluation, which culminated favorably in 2020.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aa79cc4 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"aa79cc4\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" id=\"plan-de-muestreo\" of the success of the first field remediation, as of 2015 a new and thorough field sampling process began, incorporating new technologies with respect to the first analyses performed by the oil companies between 2001 and 2013, in order to advance in the new required standards.<\/p><p>The 2015-2016 Sampling Plan was designed based on the guidelines and recommendations of the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/sqi.mma.gob.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/g4-Guia-Metodologica-Evaluacion-y-Gestion-de-Riesgo-SPPC.pdf\">Gu\u00eda Metodologica para la Gesti\u00f3n de Suelos con Potencial Presencia de Contaminantes<\/a>&#8220;, of the Ministry of the Environment (2012) and consisted of a complete characterization of the remaining traces of contamination after the initial remediation process of the land, a process that was supervised by the Universidad T\u00e9cnica Federico Santa Mar\u00eda.<\/p><p><strong>Soil sampling plan<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Sampling grid of 33 x 33 meters (1,000 m2)<\/li><li>Probes for each cell<\/li><li>Sampling every 1 meter depth<\/li><li>It considered all compounds of interest related to the industrial activity historically developed in the field.<\/li><\/ul><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3030 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/lassalinas.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/map-691x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"593\"><\/p><p><strong>Groundwater sampling<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>12 existing wells from previous studies + 59 new wells<\/li><li>Samples were taken from drill holes and boreholes down to a depth of 8.5 nmeters.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Sampling in the beach area<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>36 new wells installed on a temporary basis.<\/li><li>Characterization in 3 periods, since groundwater is subject to temporal changes due to both tides and winter-summer seasonality.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Soil gas sampling<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>At 21 points in order to determine the concentrations of volatile organic compounds.<\/li><li>The compounds of interest analyzed were BTEX, phenanthrene and naphthalene, and it was determined that only benzene, one of the BTEX compounds, requires remediation.<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>With this information, a geo-spatial modeling (3D) was developed, which allowed predicting the distribution of contaminants and the biogeochemical processes that take place in both matrices, soil and water.  <\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3032\" src=\"https:\/\/lassalinas.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/graf-1024x472.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"369\"><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In December 2018, Las Salinas submitted to the Environmental Evaluation Service (SEIA) the Environmental Impact Study <a href=\"https:\/\/seia.sea.gob.cl\/expediente\/ficha\/fichaPrincipal.php?modo=normal&amp;id_expediente=2141894991\">&#8220;Sanitation of Las Salinas land&#8221;<\/a>. After a 2-year process; 2 Consolidated Reports of Requests for Clarifications, Rectifications or Amplifications (ICSARA); and a complete citizen consultation process &#8211; which included an Anticipated Citizen Participation (PACA), carried out voluntarily by the company, and a Citizen Participation Process (PAC) established in the approval process &#8211; the Environmental Evaluation Commission (COEVA) of the Valpara\u00edso Region resolved to approve it unanimously through the Environmental Qualification Resolution favorable to the year 2020, which was ratified in 2022 by the Committee of Ministers. <\/p><p>The remediation project uses the on-site bioremediation technique, i.e., the implementation of biopiles with soil removed from the Las Salinas site. In the same way, the groundwater will be bioremediated through the use of amendments that trigger biodegradable processes. This definition was made thanks to the incorporation of the local vision of research groups from the <a href=\"\">Universidad T\u00e9cnica Federico Santa Mar\u00eda<\/a> and <a href=\"\">Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Valpara\u00edso<\/a>, who reviewed the different techniques available, conducted studies, reviewed international experiences and laboratory tests before establishing bioremediation as the most appropriate technique for the remediation of the land.
