In Las Salinas, we received architecture students from the Universidad de Viña del Mar in our . This place allows us to show and teach the benefits of the implementation of native flora in public spaces, starting with its integration into the park system that is part of our city, and how to replicate it in other urban settings.
Incorporating native flora into the city’s urban landscape has multiple benefits. While introduced species have requirements that are not necessarily provided by their adopted habitat, such as large quantities of water, native flora is adapted to its place of origin, which allows for the optimization of water resources. In addition, it attracts local fauna, especially pollinating insects and birds, playing an essential role in the maintenance of a large part of the plant kingdom.
