You can read here the news that appeared in Diario Financiero: The real estate and commercial megaproject that Copec is seeking to build in Las Salinas, Viña del Mar, which would have a total cost of over US$ 800 million, is trying to successfully pass through the environmental system. Through Inmobiliaria Las Salinas, the company filed in December – for the third time – an Environmental Impact Study (EIA) in order to qualify the almost 17 hectare site for residential use and equipment. As part of this process, the company requested more time to submit the Addendum, a document prepared by the project owner that responds to the consultations of the Consolidated Report of Clarifications, Rectifications or Amplifications (Icsara), which consolidates the consultations, clarifications or rectifications requested by the competent services involved in the process. The company had until June 5 to submit its responses, but it was extended until October 18. Inmobiliaria Las Salinas justified its request for a longer period to carry out and finalize the required complementary studies and modeling, particularly those derived from the requests of the public services regarding the possible effects on the quality of groundwater and the air component that the project could generate, ‘thus allowing it to respond appropriately to the consultations, observations and comments issued by the authority’, said the company. The objective of the Copec subsidiary is to develop a plan to decontaminate the land in Las Salinas – which was exposed to fuels for many years – through the bioremediation technique, which operates by accelerating the action of bacteria that degrade organic compounds such as hydrocarbons. This method, which would cost some US$ 55 million, implies a significant change with respect to that previously proposed, which transported the sands to other places. Copec’s idea is to be able to use the site for all the uses approved in the district’s sectional plan, i.e., residential and commercial facilities. Currently, the land only allows green areas. US$ 800 million would be involved in the real estate development. http://portal.nexnews.cl/showN?valor=WjE1NzAyNTI0OFg0NTgwNjk4MzY3ODI3Mzg0NjU0NTUwNDg0OTUyNTQ1MjU0NTY0NTY2NzE0NTQ4WDQ0NDQ0NDQ0NDQ0NDQ=
