Future Las Salinas Neighborhood, Note in El Mercurio Valparaíso

Publications and media

In an article published in El Mercurio Valparaíso on Sunday, September 6th, the urban possibilities for the Las Salinas site are discussed. The complete article can be found here: Whether it considers a park next to the hill, buildings or viewpoints, all agree that the development of a new sector in the city requires broad participation and monitoring. Beyond the controversy and the appeals announced against the environmental cleanup of the 16 hectares of land owned by Copec in the Las Salinas sector of Viña del Mar, the question arises as to the urban destination of the property. Capable like few others of arousing heated discussions, the site is totally unused and its location right in front of the sea, very close to the commercial pole of 15 Norte and with immediate access to Jorge Montt Avenue, arouses the real estate appetite of large firms, both in Santiago and in the Region. An example of this is the purchase offer made by the businessman Abraham Senerman in 2008, which reached 70 million dollars for the 16 hectares. The land in Viña del Mar also attracted the interest of the Solari family, owner of the Falabella holding company, through the Bethia group. However, these options were discarded by Copec, which decided to create its own real estate company – Las Salinas – to carry out an idea of new urbanization that they consider to be different.
