This event is organized annually by the different institutions that make up the Green Building Council (GBC), whose objective is to promote the criteria for the development of sustainable projects worldwide, such as LEED, BREEAM and Green Star. One of the best known and most important in the world is LEED, which establishes a set of standards associated with pro-sustainability strategies in buildings, neighborhoods and cities. The company attended the conference to present the structuring elements of its project for the Las Salinas site to the GBC authorities, in order to promptly initiate this certification process for the first sustainable neighborhood in our country, which will be developed in the city of Viña del Mar. This project will seek to obtain the Leed ND certification at the neighborhood level, an unprecedented initiative in Chile and the second in South America, after the Olympic Village in Brazil 2016. The conference addressed other valuable global experiences in sustainability, such as the case of Arlington, the first neighborhood with Leed ND certification, which became the pilot program for the development of this certification category; and the latest energy efficiency and responsible consumption technologies applied to neighborhood development and urbanization were presented, such as a system of permeable pavements, a method to improve the growing conditions of trees and smart windows that control the entry of light. The conference brought together architects, builders, developers, schools, financial services companies, green thought leaders, government agencies, interior designers and more than 600 suppliers and leading manufacturers of state-of-the-art green building equipment, products, services and technology available on the market today. The event also featured presentations by prominent personalities such as Deepak Chopra, pioneering expert in integrative medicine and personal transformation; James Cameron, renowned filmmaker and ocean explorer; and Julian Castro, U.S. Secretary of Housing, who gave talks to inspire and teach attendees about the potential of a greener future.
