Introducing Las Salinas VA urban vision

To move forward committed to the identity of Viña del Mar, a city on a human scale and a better quality of life for its neighbors, are the objectives that inspire and that were presented in an activity held in the field and that brought together more than 100 people, including authorities, community representatives, social and cultural organizations, universities, unions and businessmen of the region. Among the main features of the project were the greater facilities for pedestrian transportation, the strengthening of cultural and sports facilities, together with an extensive system of green areas and infrastructure that connects the waterfront with the upper sector of Viña. According to Ricardo Labarca, Development Manager of Las Salinas, “this urban vision responds to the desires that have been expressed in Viña del Mar over the last 20 years. It is designed to take advantage of a unique opportunity to rescue this area, based on environmental responsibility, innovation and sustainable development. But to take this opportunity in the best way we cannot move forward alone, but it is essential to work together with the authorities, neighbors, the private sector and the community,” he said. The proposed vision highlighted the learning process carried out by the company and aims to generate concrete bases for an agreement on the final destination of the site. The proposed vision emphasized the ideals that inspire the city. Currently, Las Salinas is in the last stage of land remediation, which will begin in the second half of 2024 and will be carried out using the bioremediation technique, complying with all the requirements of the environmental authority. With this certainty, efforts are now focused on inviting a group of city stakeholders to build a common proposal for the future, which together with the recovery of the site, will ensure that its development will benefit the quality of life of the people of Viña del Mar, with an integrated public space with private development, was one of the relevant points of the presentation of Las Salinas, as a way to generate an engine for the reactivation of the city. “The project includes the remodeling of the Plaza Alessandri, which would improve an area in neglect and contribute to the rescue of these public spaces for the city, so we would like to move forward with the Mayor, the Municipality and the neighbors in the most effective way to make them a reality,” said Ricardo Labarca.
