Las Salinas activates compliance with RCA commitments

Publications and media

Las Salinas is in the process of activating compliance with all the commitments established in the Environmental Qualification Resolution (RCA) for the works, processing of permits and agreements. During the first half of this year, administrative matters are being completed and the bidding process will begin to define the company that will carry out the land reclamation. This preliminary work will continue throughout the first half of this year, so that the physical work can begin as soon as all these legal and administrative requirements are met. Esteban Undurraga, Development Manager of Inmobiliaria Las Salinas, indicates. A few months ago, Las Salinas hired IDOM, a Spanish firm, world leader in bioremediation projects, to technically manage the cleanup process at Las Salinas. This company is an international expert in the management of environmental projects for the rescue of environmental liabilities. IDOM works in consulting, engineering and architectural projects all over the world. Among its works stands out, for example, the well-known urban regeneration of industrial land in the center of Bilbao, Spain. IDOM is already working as Project Manager on the Las Salinas remediation project and, among other tasks, the company is currently focused on the search for the main contractor to carry out the bioremediation works on the Las Salinas site. ILS is in the midst of the EOI (Expression of Interest) process for the selection of the prime contractor. EOIs are expressions of interest by companies to participate in the implementation of a project. According to Lourdes Ruiz, Project Director of IDOM Ingeniería y Consultoría S.A. Agencia Chile, . The EOI seeks to find those companies that alone or through a consortium can successfully develop the multiple aspects of the project in three major dimensions: to achieve effective bioremediation that completely eliminates the risk to people’s health, the control of all environmental variables in the environment and the civil works associated with the project. For this reason, it was established that the companies, in addition to their experience in bioremediation, must have a proven capacity to develop civil works and control environmental variables in the surroundings, a fundamental aspect that will be continuously monitored given the urban location of the project. Lourdes clarifies. Currently, the basic engineering development stage is being completed with STANTEC (a multinational company with extensive experience in this type of process). At the end of the first half of the year, the bidding conditions for the remediation project will be finalized and sent to the selected companies from the EOI; after that, the proposals will be selected in order to award the contract. Thus, the decision regarding the selected company that will develop the bioremediation will be made in the second half of this year.
