Since 2015, the and Las Salinas have been working together in the process of cleaning up the Las Salinas site, thanks to the creation of a team composed of renowned scientists from various local universities to work on a proposal for the decontamination of the site located on the coastal edge of Viña del Mar. This team has made it possible to generate the technological transfer necessary to move from diagnostic studies of the remaining contamination at the site to the proposal of decontamination processes using the bioremediation technique. Precisely this experience was selected by the USM to present at the workshop of the program “”, a CORFO initiative, which aims to promote technology transfer, innovation and science and technology-based entrepreneurship in Chilean universities. A little over a year ago, Universidad Santa María, together with other national universities, formed a consortium to work on this initiative, which has allowed them to direct scientific work towards the development and welfare of society, thanks to the strengthening of links between academia and industry. The following is a video in which Professor Michael Seeger explains the techniques that will be applied for the decontamination of the land.
