On September 12, an interesting open discussion will be held to learn more about science applied to environmental regeneration, highlighting the power of nature itself for its sustainability. Under the name “Transforming science: Towards a sustainable future for Viña del Mar”, a diverse group of specialists will address issues related to science applied to sanitation, environmental challenges, the contribution of microorganisms in the environment and the development of bioremediation in the Las Salinas area. Stephanie Rotella, environmental manager of Las Salinas and speaker on the panel, commented that “the discussion is an invitation to immerse oneself in those actions that science is contributing as a solution to problems of a territorial order but that have solutions on a scale that is not very visible or very unconventional, such as the world of microorganisms. Science has managed to know them in greater depth, identifying their natural capacities to face, for example, pollution issues”. Meanwhile, Luis Álvarez, professor at the Institute of Geography of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and another member of the panel, adds that “science brings innovation and generates transformation towards resilience, that is, a capacity to adapt to this knowledge and allow giving sustainability to the territory.” The other speakers will be Dr. Constanza Macaya, Researcher at the Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology and Environmental Biotechnology at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María and Daniel Pérez, head of engineering and construction at Las Salinas. The head of the Communities team at Las Salinas, Cristóbal Polloni, pointed out that they are making a broad dissemination, inviting the entire community of Viña del Mar interested in environmental regeneration issues, in learning about scientific advances that have a direct application for the benefit of the environment and the quality of life of people and, specifically, in relation to the sanitation of the Las Salinas site. “This is an open and free instance to which we invite to participate all people who are interested in scientific advances, research and how Viña del Mar is at the forefront of environmental sanitation with a project such as bioremediation in Las Salinas.” The seminar will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 5:00 p.m. at Jorge Montt 2300, Viña del Mar, and registration is already open by e-mail.
