Las Salinas presents two new projects to improve the quality of public space in Viña del Mar

Publications and media

One of the fundamental principles of the project is the quantity and quality of its public spaces: . All within the framework of the natural extension of Libertad Avenue to the north, in addition to the reinforcement of the territorial integration of the Santa Inés neighborhood with the coastline through the Las Salinas neighborhood. With this vision, in Las Salinas we have initiated the development of two public space improvement projects in the upper part of the site: . You can see all the details in the section of our website, and here is a summary. The project seeks to reverse the current condition of deterioration of the 19 North descent and thus propose a new pedestrian walkway focused on universal accessibility and inserted in a . We seek to recover this descent to be the basis of pedestrian connection from the Santa Inés Community to the Las Salinas neighborhood and the coastal edge, also meeting the evacuation criteria in case of tsunami established for the sector. The sector’s landscape was fundamental to the proposal. In addition to the selection of species typical of the biological identity of the city of Viña del Mar, the pedestrian proposal is sensitive to the recovery of the soil and its rainwater infiltration processes. The safety of the site was also a key component in the design. The correct lighting of the space to generate a safe environment 24 hours a day is an element of value widely supported by the community. In line with the Paseo 19 Norte project, this proposal seeks to reinforce the pedestrian character and its role as access to public transportation at the intersection of 21 Norte and Camino Internacional (Av. Alessandri). The main focus of the proposal is the formalization of pedestrian services, starting with the establishment of a safe and level crosswalk that connects the Santa Inés neighborhood with the west side of Camino Internacional and the access to Paseo 19 Norte. The role of this place in terms of access to public transportation is one of the key factors of the proposal: to generate a safe and ample stopping space for both buses going to Viña and buses that want to return north. The landscaping proposal also plays a fundamental role for the sector, giving continuity to the selection of species that are being worked on for the area, but at the same time, providing a pleasant space for pedestrians who want to enjoy the place.
