The member of the Scientific Committee of Las Salinas and outstanding academic of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, was the protagonist of the VIII Ibero-American Symposium on Waste Engineering “Towards a more efficient waste management”, which was held on September 17 and 18 in the city of Asunción, Paraguay. The summit was organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Catholic University Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, and the Waste Engineering Group (INGRES) of the Universitat Jaume I. The event took place within the framework of the actions carried out by the Ibero-American Network on Waste Management and Use – REDISA, which is composed of 23 universities from 10 countries with more than 100 researchers. This network aims to set up a common space in which the member universities and centers can share the results of the research projects carried out by each group. Professor Szantó holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and a Master in Environmental Pollution from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid; he is a Construction Engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV). He is an academic at PUCV and visiting professor at the University of Cantabria; honorary professor at the University of Cuyo; professor and consultant for CEPAL-ILPES UN; professor at UNESCO; associate professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and National Advisor for the Environment in Chile. Director of the Solid Waste Research Group (GRS).
