Dr. Michael Seeger, member of the scientific committee of Las Salinas and academic of the Department of Chemistry of the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, participated as co-chair of the organizing committee of the First ISME Latin America Congress, held at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, in Valparaíso. The Congress, held between September 11 and 13, brought together around 400 scientists from 23 countries to analyze topics related to the use of microorganisms to promote decontamination and agriculture. The event was organized jointly with the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad de Antofagasta, and is the first regional meeting sponsored by the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME). During the meeting, Professor Seeger highlighted the importance of “bioremediation, in the face of contamination situations in which microorganisms could play a very important role”.
