In order to strengthen the ties of cooperation between the two organizations, the and Las Salinas signed an agreement with the purpose of carrying out joint activities and projects that will benefit the city and its inhabitants. Specifically, the agreement is aimed at environmental and urban development associated with the recovery of the Las Salinas site. In this regard, the rector of the PUCV, Nelson Vásquez, said that “through this alliance we make available to the project the expertise and experience of outstanding academics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, so that they can continue to contribute to the process of cleaning up the Las Salinas site. We are aware of the importance of this initiative. The thorough work that our professors can develop will directly benefit people’s health”. For the general manager of Las Salinas, Arturo Natho, this agreement “is excellent news, as it will allow us to address different initiatives jointly. Especially to resume a dialogue on the city that is wanted, dreamed and needed for Viña del Mar with the participation of academia, its citizens and strategic actors”. Ricardo Labarca, development manager of Las Salinas, commented that “we are working on completing the reclamation of the land, with the highest technical standards, so that it will no longer be a space in pause and will be integrated into the development of Viña del Mar. Along these lines, we hope to advance together with the PUCV in promoting research initiatives and a broad urban conversation, which is inviting and without exclusions, to move forward in meaningful proposals for the people and to become a concrete contribution to the city”.
