Today, the Environmental Assessment Service released the details of the resolution of the favorable agreement reached by the Committee of Ministers on September 12, 2022. Las Salinas appreciates knowing in detail the content of this resolution, which ratifies the environmental authorization to implement the remediation of the Las Salinas site, which must be carried out with levels of excellence, through a safe process for people and the environment, accompanied by an active process of information to the community. “It is good news for Viña del Mar that we can begin the preparation stage for the final remediation of the land and make its recovery possible for the city. This will be a remediation process that we will carry out with the rigorousness that the people and the city deserve, with high environmental standards and scientific rigor, in order to make these soils available for future development in agreement with the community and to improve the quality of life of the people,” says Ricardo Labarca, development manager of Las Salinas. The Resolution clearly states the deadlines and requirements that must be met in order to begin the remediation process, which will allow the Las Salinas site to move forward with the commitment to stop being a space in pause. “It has been more than twenty years that we have been working systematically in the recovery of this space, complying at each stage with the requirements of the environmental authority,” said Labarca. Las Salinas reiterates its willingness to contribute to a fluid, direct and permanent dialogue with the community, the Municipality and the regional authorities, based on the scientific information available and the existing approvals of the environmental authority. As indicated in the resolution, in the coming weeks the company will implement an Informed Community program. Both processes will seek to generate instances of dialogue and meetings with community stakeholders, in order to start the remediation process in 2024. At the same time, the company will launch the international bidding process to select the consortium of companies that will carry out the bioremediation process in the field. “This is good news for the country, since this process will allow us to show, from the Valparaíso region, that it is possible to take charge of the recovery of soils with contaminants in a safe way for people and the environment,” said Labarca.
